The company is an offshoot of the successful Regentlane Publishing group of Cumbria which for years published, among other things the Towns and Villages of Britain series of guidebooks as well as the later Travelers Guides. In addition, dozens of other authors saw their work published and distributed throughout the UK including The Cruise which accompanied the popular BBC1 television programmes.
After Regentlane Ltd was forced to cease trading due to serious sickness, rights to publish the books was acquired by two of the authors, Alan Bryant who was the author of the Towns and Villages guidebooks and Leon Edgar, author of spy thrillers and sci-fi novels.
Having the foresight to see the potential of the internet, the partners decided that the future lay in E-publishing and began the lengthy task of converting the existing guides into web pages to be accessed by the public as Tourist Information.

In Britain, this work is spearheaded by Alan who now works from his home in the Lake District while Leon continues to work in Tourism, dividing his time between London and France - continuing to write his novels.

Bankside Publishing is non profit-making and seeks to assist new authors to get their work published, providing editorial assistance and backup as well as support on the Internet through a sister company, Websitemaker.
In addition, help is provided at exhibitions, shows and other functions to promote European tourism.
