Grau Roig is a ski resort situated at the head of the River Valira and at the foot of what was once a huge glacier.
Once a little isolated, it has now been merged into the Grandvalira complex which makes it possible to ski the whole of the mountain range and also go cross country between here and the resorts of Soldeu and El Tarter.
The main road does not enter the village but, after Soldeu, it veers left (north) and zig-zags above the village, over the Porte d'Envalira (literally - "the door at the entrance to the Valira") to Pas de La Casa in the adjoining valley. There is now a tunnel through, missing out the slopes, often impassable in winter, and the village of Pas, opening into the valley beyond leading to L'Hospitalet d'Andorre.
The Adventure Activities Centre of Grandvalira is located in Grau Roig. You can consult its catalogue of white activities: snowshoe walks, excursions on snowmobile or dog-sleigh,initiation into the techniques of orienteering, paragliding and helicopter flights, paintball in the snow .
