Norwich A wick, wyke or wich was originally an inlet where the Vikings (vik-ingas - people of the fjords) landed and established homesteads, usually dairy farms. Later, the word came to mean any dairy farm. Norwich was north in comparison to Ipswich to the south. In Domesday, it was Noruic.
